HI I’M CECILIA.
An artist and photographer!

Cecilia Gioria (born March 6, 1991, Alessandria, Italy) is an Italian photographer and visual artist. After completing her classical studies, she moved to Milan to study Photography at IED, where she graduated in 2014. Early in her career, she began working extensively with self-portraiture, drawing inspiration from artists such as Cindy Sherman and Francesca Woodman. Her use of self-portraiture is not a concession to narcissism or vanity, but rather a process of self-investigation an ongoing attempt at self-knowledge that resists definitive answers. Her images emerge from fragmented inner geometries with which the artist continuously negotiates.

Cecilia’s work confronts personal vulnerability and psychological struggle. Self-portraiture becomes a form of therapy, functioning simultaneously as cure, mirror and magnifying lens turned toward her interior world. Through this practice, she articulates what cannot be perceived externally reclaiming her own point of view.

Alongside photography she has developed a strong writing practice.

Notes, fictional narratives and streams of consciousness often accompany her images, at times becoming central elements of the work. Her research extends to psychic mechanisms expressed through handmade collage illustrations, creative writing and interventions on objects that carry autobiographical meaning.

At a young age Cecilia began exhibiting in group and solo shows as well as international art fairs. She has also worked professionally as a photographer, collaborating with brands through Kumooku Studio in her hometown.

Her work has received growing attention from both the public and the media.
